Check presentation – AS Cannes Volleyball 2021/2022

DiscoverING sport, its values and virtues: the example of volleyball

A long-term project on the entire school year

On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, the Cannes Foundation awarded a 10,000€ check to AS Cannes Volleyball to finance a program to discover volleyball, sport and its values in QPV (Political Quarters of the City) neighborhoods and schools of Cannes La Bocca. The project also aims to finance and offer licenses to 20 young Cannes residents to enable them to practice this sport year round.

A project aimed at young Cannes residents aged 9 to 16, which takes place over the 2021/2022 school year, around 4 modules:

  • Volleyball for all: organization of sporting and festive events in QPV districts.
  • Dragon’s village animations: installation 5 times a year of the inflatable structure allowing the installation of the Dragon’s village
  • Interventions by coaches in schools: intervention 5 times a year by AS Cannes Volley coaches in schools in Cannes la Bocca to introduce volleyball and to encourage young people to practice sports.
  • Follow-up over the year of 20 young licensees from Cannes: financing of the license for 20 new young licensees from Cannes who discovered volleyball through the workshops implemented by this project.

Many officials representing the City of Cannes, the Foundation and the AS Cannes Volley club were present to salute this great project which, through sport, helps convey many values.

T

his operation deals with the check presentation, of course, but also marks the first stage of a project which will last several months, until the end of the school year. Meeting point : the back of the Ranguin media library, on an ordinarily empty land.
This time, full car park, heavily occupied land, surrounded with a distant but certain hubbub. I realize as I get closer to the scale of what they call the “dragon’s village”, a real giant structure. This inflated entertainment area offers a multitude of sports workshops for all these children who have come for the occasion or simply passing through. Cannes Jeunesse took the opportunity to bring some of their groups.
A place where one can discover volleyball yes, but also dance with the practice of cheerleaders, which appeals to both girls and boys. This operation is also an opportunity to talk to parents: Vica, who coordinates the project, lets them know that, thanks to this project, 20 licenses will be offered to children who do not have the opportunity to join a club otherwise.

First day of the project, a success: lots of smiles, lost balloons, music, moments of surprises as well, from parents who did not think they could benefit from these activities for free. A project full of promises: to be continued in the next episodes!
